Nietzsche on my mind

two sweaty men, one in a wife-beater
the other shirtless, sucking faces
in the chill of the almost-
summer night
outside the club, Lady Gaga rules
on the side street
i need to believe
each time the couple comes
up for air
the bare chested guy
he with the restless
koi tattoos in both his forearms
ogles the smoking guy in camo
shorts two paces from them
i need to believe but i can’t

Popeye's, Boston Road

Young, tall, black guy
Flimsy basketball shorts, almost
Besides the point
However much I love words
It was best to get
Out of them

A park in Woodside, Queens

A girl, two or three, perhaps. Golden under
the sunlight. Her mother, her father
all eyes on her.
Two brown squirrels, one dirty, the other
one scabbed, scamper
toward the sun drenched patch of the grass
like chorus members in an opera
seeking out the light pools
on the stage.
