Affectation

in an annual orgy of fetishizing feigned cultural cliches, the crowd in this year’s iteration of the philippine independence day parade here in new york is the one true saving grace—sans pretense and affectation.

around the jury-rigged stage, the crowd was plasmatic.  it oozed towards the apron when someone attractive was introduced and slunk back with precision towards the food stalls when the novelty faded.
